The First International Reunion of the Ejsmont Family took place between 26 - 29 June 2009 in Mierki near Olsztynek.

On the arrival the guests received the programme of the Reunion and the book ‘Ejsmontowie’ written by Tadeusz Ejsmont from Modlica.

Before we started our first meal together, we were welcomed by Leon Ejsmont from Szczecin, the descendant of Orsza Cup-Bearer with the following words: ‘Honourable Ladies and Gentelmen, warm welcome to all of you, who arrived for the gathering of the noble family of Ejsmont of Korab arms and related families.’ After that his mentor, Tadeusz from Modlica, took the floor and officially opened the Reunion wishing all the guests a pleasant stay and encouraging them to actively participate in the event. Then Wawrzyniec Ejsmont initiated the Polish national anthem and everybody joined in.

After dinner the guests started making acquaintances and continued getting to know one another and making friends later on in the evening, at the barbecue. Beer was generously served and the music was played by Jerzy Ejsmont-Antoszkiewicz from Warsaw and Maria Ejsmont-Rybicka from London. Also Aleksandra Ejsmond from Ufa, Russia sang a few songs and accompanied on the guitar to the performing group of Aleksandra Ślusarek from Gdańsk, Paulina Ejsmont from Białystok and Agnieszka Ejsmont from Toruń.

A brilliant party with dancing continued until the small hours of the morning. The guests enjoyed themselves, with even some pole dancing by Nina from Warsaw and Leon from Szczecin.

After a good rest the following morning we listened to presentations on the family history with the first one given by Jerzy Dąbrowski from Gdańsk. He talked about the history of Grodzieńszczyzna from the XIII century and the first written documents related to the Ejsmont name.

Next, Wawrzyniec Ejsmont took the floor to share some of his memories. Being more than eighty years old, he was probably the oldest participant of the Reunion. He reminisced about his family life before 1939, about the war, he recalled his exile to the Far North of Russia and his almost miraculous return to Poland. Wawrzyniec wrote his memories in the book called ‘Wschodnie Opowiesci’ published by Mer Publishing.

After that Kazimir Ejsmont from Grodno, recited his poem and suggested keeping a minute silence to remember all the Ejsmonts who died and are buried in many cementaries all over the world..

The next speaker Zbigniew Tołłoczko talked about the family origins, about Pobóg arms and concluded his presentation with some comments on advantages of having a noble surname. For him it meant that he had always been treated with particular attention by the doctors because there were many famous physicians called Tołłoczko.

The time after the presentations was spent on sharing documents, photographs and family tree charts.

After dinner Radosław Ejsmont from Szczecin took pictures of the family. Around , we enjoyed afternoon tea listening to the concert given by the family musicians mentioned above. Also the results of a competition for a family story were announced. The first prize winner was Wawrzyniec Ejsmont for his book of memoirs called ‘Wschodnie opowieści’(Eastern Tales). The second prize was given to Albert Kraczkowski for his book written  in Russian about the Ejsmont family from the area near Minsk in Belorussia. Two third prizes went to Ewa Witczak for ‘Kronika rodzinna. Drzewo genealogiczne mojej rodziny: Koryckich i Eysmontów, album z 2004 roku’(Family Chronicle. Family Tree of the Korycki and Ejsmont, album of 2004) and Józef Rudzki for the family stories dating back to 1840, starting from Stefan Ejsmont.

Unfortunately, the competition for a family anthem has not been settled as there were no items provided. Therefore the competition remains open and there is still a chance to win it next year.

The guests from Belorussia, Kazimir Ejsmont from Grodno and Andriej Ejsmont from Minsk, presented a gift – a beautifully bound book - to Tadeusz Ejsmont, one of the reunion organizers.

Leon Ejsmont initiated the discussion about establishing the Ejsmont Family Association and the list was made of people supporting the idea.

In the evening there was a party with the abundance of food and drinks. Superb music encouraged for dancing and so again the party lasted until the small hours of the morning.

On Sunday morning after breakfast there were discussions about the family association and some decisions were made related to the organizing committee. Józef from Okup Mały became president and Tadeusz from Modlica, Leon from Szczecin, Mieczysław from Gdańsk and Agnieszka from Toruń became the members of the committee. It was also decided that the next reunion would take place in 2010 near Szudziałów to celebrate the 500th anniversary of granting the estate by King Sigismund I the Old to the Ejsmont family.

To mark the end of the reunion, the Polish National Anthem was sung. After dinner the time to say good-bye came and the guests started leaving.

Our thanks go to Jacek Ejsymond from Warsaw, Jolanta Ejsymond-Marciniak from Zalesie Górne, Mieczysław Ejsmont from Gdańsk and Edward Ejsmont from Białystok for their support and sponsoring the visit of our ‘Eastern Brothers’ in Poland.

Looking forward to seeing you at the Second International Reunion of the Ejsmont Family to be held between 25 and 27 June 2010. We are hoping to sing the family anthem then!
